Guilty Pleasure Thursdays: 1/31/08

For this Thursday I bring you another ringtone special. This is probably a song that I would've completely hated had it not been for this piece of internet nerdery...

After I saw that and watched it somewhere around 185 times I totally loved this song, and coincidentally became a fan of the group. This shit is 100% pop mastery, I find it absolutely cheesy and think it's so over the top that you can't really think it's anything but awesome. I have kind of a really big need to play this at some party I dj, but I envision it setting off a riot of OMFG!!! So Awesome-ness so I have to pick and choose where I ever actually end up playing it. You should just hope that you're there for it. I could basically post the entire FOB (yeah I'm so into them I abbreviate their name) catalog, but I need to ration how much greatness you have in your life for the good of the blog, maybe the world...

Welcome to the biggest waste of time in your life...I found out about this today and I think I've played it for well over an hour. So simple, yet so addictive.

You can thank me later. Tomorrow I will blow your mind with this.

Say goodbye to the rest of your night...

heres something to listen to while playing.

Soft Rock Sunday: 1/27/08

One time I was at Best Buy, minding my own business, looking at HDTV's I couldn't afford if I saved up my entire yearly income since 2002. During this trip through fantasy lane I wandered through the home stereo section and I just so happened to hear the sweet soothing tones of Michael Mcdonald's godly voice. I walked over to the stereo it was playing on and proceeded to turn it up to 11 and sing along.

I was then asked to leave, not only that section, but Best Buy altogether...

That was a good day...

Guilty Pleasure Thursdays: 1/24/08

This will be an ongoing series that will probably unveil some of the deepest, most ridiculous secrets and stories that I have. I hope you enjoy how much I'm putting myself on the line for this blog. Things are going to get real awkward at times, but we'll ride it out together. That said, here's week one.

Due to unfortunate circumstances I currently am the embarrassed owner of a pink razr. If you can imagine what its like to shame yourself every time you get a phone call, you will understand just a morsel of what my life is like...

Knowing that the phone would bring me so much disdain, I figured I could take the situation in two directions: I could either hide my secret and run to a dark, isolated corner every time my phone rang, OR I could really up the ante and take this catastrophe to the next level. Being that I enjoy and sometimes prefer awkward situations, I chose the latter.

So I had a choice to make. What could I do that would really bring me over the top? Choosing some boy band song for my ringtone was too easy, and some high school punk hit would probably just make me look cooler due to my boyish good looks and inability to grow facial hair.

So I thought deeply and found what I was looking for. I chose a song that would bring me mass embarrassment any time my phone rang, but also a tune that I genuinely liked.

This has been my ringtone for about 4 months.

Big Fun Recap

Big Fun last night was everything I wanted it to be and then some...I honestly can't remember the last time I was that happy. I had a smile on my face for 6 hours. My cheeks are sore today. It was totally incredible. Roc and Lloydski were KILLING it all night. I got there around 11pm, downstairs by 11:30, and was dancing from midnight until 4am all the way through.

There's honestly nothing that would've made the night any more perfect. Dancing around to amazing music on a great soundsystem with 20 of your friends plus another 40-60 people just having an awesome time listening to music alot of them had probably never heard before.

I was so amped because they played two songs that were featured for Big Fun week. I was losing it during "Deep Inside". Like I'm still kind of reeling off the awesome feeling I had last night. I was the happiest I've been in a while. I can't even express how terrific last night was...seriously...if its a feasible option, I would recommend not missing the next one.

Here's some stuff that really made the night pop off for me.

This got played real early in the night and it kind of set everything off for me, I was sold on the evening and knew only awesomeness was to come.
Answering Machine - Call Me Mr. Telephone

Everything started getting really fucking crazy when they dropped "I Want Your Soul". Everyone was going wild and the strobes and police lights were throwing me into uncontrollable arm flailing from awesome overload.
Armand Van Helden - I Want Your Soul

Already on a serious high off of "I Want Your Soul" Lloyd and Roc went classic with "The Good Life".
Inner City - Good Life

Keeping the classics going with "You're the One For Me"
D-Train - You're the One For Me

As the night went on Roc went nuts with the Chicago shit.
Dj Pierre and Green Velvet - Acid Trax

Towards the end of the night Roc wound it down with one of my favorite tracks of the last few months.
Still Going - Still Going Theme

Man, I can't wait for the next one...

I didn't take any pics because I thought I'd lose my camera if I brought it, but I saw Woody was taking video and pics, so I'll post them once they surface.

Like a Pussy Soaked in Apple Juice...

Big Fun Week - Day 2!!!

Big Fun Week!!!

This Sunday is the next installment of Big Fun. I've missed the last two so you have NO IDEA how psyched I am. So I figured in preperation for the insanity that is going to happen this weekend, I'd post some songs I hope Lloydski and Roc will play. I will be posting one a day until Sunday.

If you are unfamiliar with Big Fun, please watch this.

Here's the first track of the week.

Soft Rock Sundays: C&J Tribute Edition

Last night was the final Caps and Jones at Savalas so I wanted to throw up some tracks that these guys opened my eyes to for the first Soft Rock Sunday.

Dreams

I think this is the first song I associated with Caps and Jones. As is the case with any good mixtapes you start to associate the songs with the mixtape itself instead of a standalone track. On Moving in Stereo (which is available on their website) this was one of the standout songs I hadn't heard before.

This was also the last song they played last night at 4am, which I found to be really fitting and kind of a cool bookend on Caps and Jones' run at Savalas.

More Than This

This is a song they featured on their Lemon-Red mix from 2005 and it also kind of has double importance for me because the song is great, but the moment that I was 100% sold on this track was due to the karaoke stylings of Mr. Bill Murray aka Bob Harris.

Yer So Bad

This is a song that I heard Jonesy play at a Savalas night a few weeks ago and its been in my head ever since. Totally amazing track that I may not have heard if it wasn't for these dudes.

That caps (pun intended) the first soft rock sunday. Hopefully it left you jonesin' (god I'm awesome...) for the forthcoming episodes.

Didn't See That Coming...

Last night I got called in to dj at Hope Lounge at the last minute, so I came home, grabbed my stuff and then went on my way. As I was sitting in the subway waiting for the hell train to come, I realize that I forgot my headphones, so I think... "Damn, should I go back home and get them?" Of course, the train shows up at that point, and since it might not show up again until the next solar eclipse, I decide to chance it and hope someone can help me out or that Hope Lounge has some I can use. Luckily, the dudest of dudes aka Danomyte aka Coach Dan hooked it up and let me borrow his.

So with that out of the way, I needed to get some food before I went to play. I see a pizza sign and figure I'll stop in. Upon closer inspection the pizza place contains the name of a well known actor. Interesting right...? Well check this out.

Vinny Vella's Pizza!

Vinny Vella, of "Coffee and Cigarettes" fame, was sitting on a stool when I walked in. We talked a little bit about movies he's done and about Jim Jarmusch aka the Wolverine of film directors and then I went on my way.

So after all this I get to Hope and start playing and then about an hour into it, the dude that called me in asks me if I want to dj a magazine issue release party (SCORE!).

How's that for unexpected...?

Thinking that my streak of positive unexpected occurrences will run out soon, I call it a night and come back home.

quite a night.

Coming Soon: Soft Rock Sundays

So in an effort to give this blog some structure, this Sunday will be the first of many Soft Rock Sundays. Get ready for that white heat (pause).

Thank You Global Warming: Part Deux!!!

So the weather was incredible today making it rough to stay inside and work so during my lunch I took a walk down to the pier by the Brooklyn Bridge.

While I was walking I was just being somewhat nosy and saw a film shoot so I asked around and found out Sarah Jessica Parker was doing a Coke commercial. I totally saw the back of her head until this guy decided to block me...

She had a giant bus which she was apparently utilizing as a mini bar.

Street Vendors Jam So Hard!

Today on my way home from work I was walking down the street and noticed that one of the street vendors was listening to the radio. As I keep walking I notice that not only are the rest of the street vendors listening to the radio, but they're all listening to the same station! What song were they listening to...?

Wham!

So Ill!

I'm thinking about carrying my camera around to take this blog to the next level...

Keep It Movin'

So some things are kind of bringing me down lately, but I'm totally feeling myself right now so its got me on this weirdo emotional rollercoaster...I kinda feel like a pregnant woman, except for the whole pregnant and having to have sex with a dude thing...The point? The 2008 phrase of the year for me is Keep It Movin' because thats what I need to do to get where I want to be...can't be getting dragged backwards...

Kanye - Everything I Am
LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great
Split Enz - Six Months In a Leaky Boat
Beatconductor - Sumthin' Betta

Breakdancers

Dear Breakdancers,

You seem to be people who don't understand how annoying you are. Your antics are a Grade-A 'tang repellent. Just take a look at the pic above. How many girls do you see? Every time you start dancing I get embarrassed for you and then get annoyed that every girl within a 20 mile radius is going to leave the dancefloor so you can do your wicked flares. Also...no one thinks windbreakers in the club are attractive. Step your game up.

One Love Bro,
erock (cause you never seem to use your real names either)

Last night after I finished djing the next guy hopped on and then about 5 minutes later, a cloud of douche emanated over the dancefloor and girls started leaving and I knew what was coming...a delightful sesh of breaking. As douche #1 started "pop-locking" and "serving" douche #2, I thought two things:

1) Congrats to me for continuing my long standing streak of never starting a breakdancing circle. (high five)

2) I wonder if they know how embarrassing they are...?

At one point one guy appeared to start riverdancing, which I found unsettling only because I forgot my camera and couldn't record him and use it as a shaming device at a future date...

Despite all that, the night was fun and I had a good time.

These will never start a breakdancing circle, which makes them awesome.

Year in Review.

For the most part I feel like 2007 can basically be summed up in the last month of my life. Everything notable happened after December. I came to NY for a job interview, got it, and just ended up staying. Everything else has kind of fallen into place...Now I just gotta figure this place out. Im ready though, I was bored in AZ, everything here is new so it makes things pretty interesting. My job is nice and I live with people I've known for a while, which is pretty great cause I've had a pretty ridiculous history involving random roommates.

Thats where I'm at now, keepin it movin for '08. Let's do it!

here's some tracks that I was really feeling in '07. Some are old, but I didn't hear them till recently so that makes them new to me.

Le Knight Club - Holiday On Ice [Cryda 001]
Ten City - That's The Way Love Is (Deep House Mix)
Tracey Thorn - It's All True

First Post

Alright, so after my year-long hiatus from blogging on my last blog I've decided to throw my hat back into the fire with this puppy. I'm pretty psyched on it, it's been a long time coming and will mostly be things that are awesome. I'm gonna try to post like 1-2 times a day, but we'll see how that goes. Things I do/see/know/figure out, will all be discussed so expect awesome things like sweet songs, some embarrassing tales of my childhood, current events in my life, and ridiculous shit that I think of during the day...

I will probably be making some improvements to this thing in a while, but for now this will do. Tell your friends. It's about to get saucy!

Oh yeah. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
